Where: Decentre, 84b Whitechapel High Street, E1 7QX London, United Kingdom
When: Saturday 13th January 2018 at 14:00–16:30
Are you keen to organise prisoner solidarity and support prisoner resistance as part of a well-supported group? This is an open event for folks interested in getting involved in IWOC.
IWOC is a committee of the IWW (Industrial Workers of the World) global grassroots union. IWOC is made up of IWW members, some of those who are imprisoned and some of who are not. It is the role of non-imprisoned IWOC members to provide support to members who are imprisoned, solidarity to all imprisoned people and actively challenge the prison industrial complex. This work can be challenging politically, practically and emotionally. This is made all the more difficult by the fact that non-imprisoned IWOC members are geographically dispersed and have limited opportunities to meet one another and have to navigate prison censorship and repression behind bars.
We currently have more prisoner members then we do organisers on the outside for IWOC, so we’d love for more people to get involved in building this important prisoner union and networks of inside-outside solidarity.
This event will involve:
– meeting current IWOC organisers, learning about IWOC and the IWW
– learning about the prison industrial complex and prison labour in the UK
– being introduced to our prisoner buddy scheme
– skill sharing around prisoner support and solidarity campaigns
